I wanted to post two things related to stuff I previously posted about Haiti. One is a video of Ben Stiller’s school in Haiti:
Here’s the link to the video, I dont think I can embed it.
The other is an article about the difficulty of raising kids in Haiti because of the poverty- and that parents being unable to care for their kids is a huge issue.
This entails what I was talking about before regarding the rights and equality of women, related to birth control and population control. But of course it also relates to the great need in Haiti, more now than ever, to help create development that allows parents to support their own families.
Here’s the link to the article, which is quick but hard to read. I saw it originally in the LATimes but it seems to be everywhere. And it is unfortunately one of many articles out there about this topic.
But as always, there are THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP.
Support Ben Stiller’s organization and “like” him on Facebook, for one. Or support his co-sponsors, Artists for Peace & Justice.
Or support Sheepfold School which houses and feeds kids who have no where else to go.
Connect with World Vision of Save The Children which specifically work with kids.
Also, hey, check out Wyclef Jean’s Yele Foundation and their recent work for 3 young Haitian amputees. His organization took some flack earlier this year for not spending money wisely, but to me, it looks like he’s pretty transparent and doing a lot of hands on stuff. He is on FB too.
Thanks for reading. More to come.
